How to clean your Moroccan rug

Moroccan rugs are appealing pieces of art. But they require deliberate cleaning so that its beauty and artistry is preserved. Here’s how to clean your Moroccan rug if you wish to do it yourself:

Shaking and Vacuuming the Rug
Shake: Now, if the rug has some loose dust particles, you may gently shake it a bit while keeping it outside the house, since this will considerably help in cleaning the wool rug.

Vacuum: If you do decide to vacuum the rug, ensure to possess only a gentle vacuum that will not use any and all rotational brushing as it can weaken the fibers and instead unravel the fabric. To protect the rug while cleaning it, first vacuum one side of the rug in the direction of its fibers and then repeat the same for the other side.

Cleaning up spots and stains
Mild Detergent Solution: If, in the process, any stain happen to occur, combine one portion of mild detergent with lukewarm water and softly wipe the stain starting from its outer rim so that it does not expand.

Test First: Always do a test patch to a random but concealed section of the carpet for every stain cleaning attempt before launching a full scale cleaning of the whole stain. The aim of the test patch is to avoid changing the color of the carpet for any stain removal procedure.

Blot, Don’t Scrub: Scrubbing will only invite ruined fibers, so remember to blot instead any stained region.

Deep Cleaning (Optional for Heavy Dirt)
Baking Soda Treatment: If your rug requires deeper cleaning, Use Baking Soda: to sprinkle over the surface to absorb odors, and dirt. Let it soak for about 15-30 minutes and then vacuum it.

Hand Wash (for Wool Rugs): To hand-wash it, mix mild wool detergent with lukewarm water for a more thorough clean and wash gently.
